Danville Union Station, is the main passenger rail terminal serving the city of Danville, and the surrounding areas. DUS opened in May, 1941 as the Danville Union Passenger Terminal, effectively replacing the now demolished 32nd Street Station. The station was approached by residents of the Tri State Area seeking a new and more modern passenger rail station. The station was built to make passenger rail travel in, and out of Danville much more efficient.
As early as 1939, the residents of the Tri State Area cried out that they needed a new train station to replace the out-of-date 32nd Street Station. In a unaminous decision, the city government approved the construction of the new station to improve commuter, and intercity passenger rail service in and out of Danville. Construction began in May, 1940 and continued until April, 1941. The new station permitted the Danville Southern Railway (DSRWY), Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (AT&SF), and the Union Pacific (UP) a more convienent terminal for their named, and un-named passenger trains. On April 1st, 1971, the National Passenger Rail Corporation, better known as Amtrak took over a majority of the intercity passenger trains, barring the Danville Southern, which continued to operate passenger trains until 1978 when the DS finally caved in, and conveyed operations to Amtrak. Today, Union Station is served by Amtrak, and the Danville Transit Authority who took over commuter rail operations back in 1965.

Bus Service[]
Besides trains, DUS is served by three bus lines for the Danville Transity Authority and one for Greyhound.
DTA
Route 3C: Downtown Danville to Union Station via Chinatown.
Route 42A: Northeast Tarrington to Danville International Airport via Downtown.
Route 101: Union Heights to 33rd and Parkinson Avenue
via Cantor Street.
Greyhound
Greyhound provides regional bus service on Route 99 providing 24 hour service from San Diego to Danville Commons via Union Station.
Future Development[]
In the summer of 2013, the city of Danville recieved stimulus funds to start a new light rail line. The goal is to link Union Station with the suburb of Tarrington, 10 and 1/2 miles to the north. Construction is set to begin in late-2014 with expected completion by early 2016.
